Artist Jaad Kuujus has described her woven works as threads that connect to ancestral knowledge. Visualizing the strong connections between generations as the literal threads in garments inspired A Thread That Never Breaks, a live art exhibition originally curated to launch in 2020, brings together artworks by seven Indigenous artists: Joi Arcand, Angel Aubichon, Leanna Marshall, Caroline Monnet, Jaad Kuujus, Pacific Sisters and Olivia Whetung. This group of artists now rebuild physical threads into pixels for a virtual exhibition that will open in 2021 on Ab Tec Island in Second Life. Keeping knowledge and expression in reach, the rendered works of weaving, beading and sewing honour and acknowledge exchange and interconnection, but also point to vital issues of trade, treaty and land. In this panel, artist Jaad Kuujus, with Co-Curator, Lisa Myers, discuss the digital adaption of textile and craft works as a continuum of the ancestral thread.
