Megan Lewis is a young, queer, mixed Kanien’kehá:ka woman and member of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. Launched in early 2020, Pine and Needle Designs embraces its name from the White Pine, whose cluster of five needles symbolized the unity of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy Nations. Megan sees beadwork as a form of advocacy and a physical representation of Indigenous resilience, highlighting that we are still here. Day-to-day, she works for a National Indigenous Youth Organization, creating more accessible spaces for youth to advocate for impactful policy change. Inspired by her surroundings, Megan creates beadwork designed to be worn loudly and proudly by all.
