Mikailah Thompson is a contemporary nimiipuu beadwork artist from Lapwai, Idaho and currently resides in the Washington, DC area. Known for creating pieces that draw from traditional influences, her work ranges from regalia, to accessories, and wall canvas’. She collectively brings together materials that were once used during trade amongst her tribe and aligns the history with her use of self-expressionism.

As a child, Mikailah was drawn to her maternal grandmother’s closet full of antique beads. Once she was taught, she found ways to express herself in a multitude of ways and continues to do so drawing from her Afro-Indigenous identity.

The style Mikailah captures draws on bold, geometric, and portrait tailored designs. Thus far, her work has been affiliated with the SWAIA Santa Fe Indian Art Market, Eighth Generation, Manitobah, Thunder Voice Hat Co, Native Art Magazine, Potlatch Fund, First American Art Magazine, Discover Your Northwest, and more.
