Desde la iniciativa de perdurar hace más de 10 años en la ciudad de Medellín nace Okama, pero nuestro ser se ombliga en las montañas de Antioquia, y Risaralda, en los ríos del Chocó y en el Valle del Sibundoy. Esta familia Reúne a un grupo de indígenas de las comunidades embera Eyábida, embera Chamí, embera Dóbida e Inga y que por diferentes eventos nos vemos envueltos en una ciudad ajena a nuestras raíces, nuestra misión es resistir y conservar nuestras tradiciones, por esto tejemos desde el vientre al lado del fogón hasta en la ciudad que nos recibe, creando cada una de nuestras piezas con las enseñanzas dejadas por abuelas y madres.

Nuestro grupo es diverso y cobija a todos quienes quieran participar, nos lidera Luisa y es quien ha estado a cargo de darle un rumbo de buen camino a este tejido gracias al esfuerzo de todas y todos hemos podido participar en eventos y concursos que resaltan el conocimiento artesanal y la sabiduría que se nos ha sido transmitida.

From the initiative beginning more than 10 years ago in the city of Medellín, Okama was born, but our being is centered in the mountains of Antioquia, and Risaralda, in the rivers of Chocó and in the Sibundoy Valley. This family brings together a group of indigenous people from the Embera Eyábida, Embera Chamí, Embera Dóbida and Inga communities and who, due to different events, find themselves surrounded by a city foreign to our roots. Our mission is to resist and preserve our traditions, which is why we weave both beside our stovetops in our communities, all the way to the city that receives us, creating each of our pieces with the teachings left by grandmothers and mothers.

Our group is diverse and welcomes everyone who wants to participate. Luisa leads us and is the one who has been in charge of giving this network a good direction. Thanks to everyone’s efforts we have also been able to participate in events and contests that highlight the knowledge in craftsmanship and the wisdom that has been transmitted to us.
