The Dene Futurisms Collection represents Robyn’s Dene culture as connected to the past and imagining it into the future. Her collection contests colonial interpretations in art through her art practice of threading and unifying tradition and technology into a future-present within the cosmos. Robyn’s work sustains Dene people, despite facing misrepresentation and erasure within many different aspects but also through art. It’s critical to show that Dene people are still resisting, resilient, and practicing self-determination despite barriers. Robyn McLeod was born in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. She is of Dene and Metis descent and is a Deh Gah Gotie First Nations member in the Deh Cho Region. She uses the inspiration from family, culture and environmental sustainability that comes from the resourcefulness of living and working in the Northern Territories.
