Christine Toulouse, an emerging Anishinaabe artist from Sagamok Anishnawbek First Nation, specializes in quillwork. Guided by her grandmother, Ida Toulouse, Christine’s work embodies the connection between land, seasons, and memory. Her work has been showcased both locally and internationally at Reconciliation, an art exhibition by Girard Art Gallery in France, the Indigenous Art Exhibition in Mississauga, and at the 47th Annual Indigenous Art Exhibition by the Woodland Cultural Centre in Brantford. Christine’s work has also been featured in publications, including Refinery 29, where she was recognized as one of 11 Indigenous designers to watch. Christine also conducts community workshops and demonstrations to share her quillwork practices with the public. Christine is an award winning artist, having won an honourable mention prize with the Trias Art Award through the Ottawa Art Gallery and the Ottawa Hospital for an art piece that represented art and healing.
