Skye Paul is a Toronto-based artist and a member of the English River First Nation. She is part of the Residential School legacy, and at age 15, Skye visited her reserve for the first time. Her auntie asked her to carve the moose her uncle hunted. Skye refused. Her auntie sat Skye down and taught her to bead and Skye beaded one of her Setsune’s designs. By 2015, Skye invested in her practice full-time when her first son was born. A mother first, Skye’s art is a practice of survival, sustenance, and connection.
