Maskwacis Plains Cree /

Northern Plains Jewellery by Erik Lee

Discipline:

Craft

Traditional and modern, Erik’s work has been showcased at such venues as the Smithsonian in Manhattan, NYC and the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington DC, as well as Santa Fe Indian Market where he was awarded 1st place in the Jewelry/Belts category in 2022.

Eriks work is rooted in Nehiyaw traditional forms and reflects the geometric and floral designs in Nehiyaw art. He brings this aesthetic to his contemporary, fine art jewellery style and high end wearable fashions in sterling silver.

My work is informed by the Cree visual language and design sensibilities Plains art and adornment are very individual forms of expression. Every piece is a statement piece, the statement being, here I am! While paying tribute to historical form, I strive to innovate and bring new directions to Indigenous design. It is a living art form, just as Indigenous cultures are living and evolving entities.
