Ursala Hudson is of German, Filipino and Alaska Native (Tlingit) descent. Her primary creative medium is woven Indigenous couture, crafted according to the techniques and spiritual traditions of the Pacific Northwest Coast people’s Chilkat and Ravenstail weaving. After a twenty-year career in graphic design, Ursala’s fibre art practice draws on her digital art background’s calculated, bold, and innovative qualities. She incorporates non-traditional materials, treatments, silhouettes, and techniques into her woven garments, focusing on creating ceremonial regalia that accentuates the female figure and uplifts the modern Indigenous woman.
