Marta Orellana was born in the highlands of Petén Guatemala during an outbreak of the civil war, which was recognized as genocide against Mayan peoples. Marta and her family fled their mountain ranges covered in jungles that border the ocean to the Jane and Finch neighbourhood in Toronto. This made a direct impact in all areas of her life, including fashion. Marta is an active member of the Indigenous community, including working with Anduhyaun, ENAGB, Gabriel Dumont homes and ANDPVA. She also facilitates yoga and sewing workshops as healing for the Thunder Woman Healing Lodge Society.
